Salary Cap
The salary cap will be a floating cap $20 million above the NHL cap. (ie. if the NHL cap is $60 million, our cap will be $80 million.) Since the NHL cap seemingly changes year in and year out, our cap will change as well. This league will also have a salary cap floor of the NHL cap minus $10 million. (so again, if it were $60 mill in the NHL, our floor would be $50 million)
NHL Roster:
The fantasy team will consist of 3 centres, 3 right wings, 3 left wings, 5 defencemen, 2 goalies, and unlimited bench spots as long as your franchise is under the cap limit(of which you may fill whatever positions you want). Your team must have each roster spot filled at all times (you may not dress only 4 d men or have 1 goalie, etc). At no point are you to have NA players inside your active lineup, (players that are not in an active role on a NHL team). The only exception for this is suspended players, they do not apply to this rule.
At no point may your team be over the salary cap during the NHL season. During the offseason, however, you may be over the cap to deal with re-signing players, transactions, etc. There will be a date set every year, near the end of the offseason, that your team will have to become in compliance with the salary cap (typically will be at the end of September)
Dispersal Draft
Each GM will participate in the dispersal draft, which will include all players who have been drafted up until the upcoming entry draft. (ie. not Reinhart, Ekblad, etc...) The order is snake style.(ie, 1234-4321). It is the duty of the manager that has picked to send a PM or an email to the manager of the upcoming pick. Even if you see that that manager is online, please send the notification. This helps ensure that the draft moves along at a speedy pace.
The dispersal draft will be 45 rounds long.
Entry Drafts
Inaugural entry draft
In the first entry draft for this league the order will be the reverse order of the Dispersal draft. So whomever had the 16th overall pick will have the 1st overall pick. 15th overall will have the 2nd overall, and so on and so forth. The initial draft will be a snake format. Every year after will be as the NHL does 1-16, 1-16, etc. The entry draft will be held after the end of the dispersal draft.
The entry draft is only for players that have been selected in the most recent NHL entry draft. (ie. the inaugural draft is only for players drafted in 2014.
Entry drafts after year 1 and every year after.
The order will be determined by the standings at the end of the regular season. However there will be a playoff lottery for all teams that do not qualify for playoffs. This will match the odds of the real NHL draft.
The entry draft will be 3 rounds each year. A player not selected in the draft will go directly to free agency.
Scoring
In a Head-to-Head League, your team squares off in two weekly matchup against two separate teams to see who can compile the most points on that given week.
New weekly matchups begins every Monday. A win on the week counts as 2pts, tie 1pt and a lose 0pts. With the win going to the team that finishes the week with the highest total points.
This weekly win-loss total is added to a cumulative season record where each win counts for 1 WIN (2 points), each tie counts for one point, and each loss counts for none. The total of these points is used to determine standings and playoff seedings.
The scoring system will include:
Offense -
G - 1pt
A - 1pt
Goaltending -
Win - 2pts
Shutout - 5pts
Note - If a goalie wins a game with a shutout it counts as a total of 7pts.
Player Movement
All day to day transactions will occur in Fantrax during the season. Each team will be allowed to make 5 player transactions per week. An example would be to drop player A to the waiver wire and pick up player B. This would be 1 move. Trades do not count against player movement totals. If there is ever an error with a movement contact Thrashers and he will help sort it out.
An important note. We do most of our day to day stuff during the season in Fantrax's system. But we like to keep a record of transactions on this site as well. So whenever making a move on Fantrax (pick ups, drops, trade, etc) You must place a reply into the "Roster moves thread". You must also update your page roster as soon as possible
Signing Players
When you wish to sign a player that is not owned by another team, simply put a post in the Claim UFA section. There are some restrictions to the players that you may sign. A player must meet one of the following stipulations.
1 - A player has been drafted at some point by an NHL team
2 - A player has played in the NHL at some point. (could be playing overseas and returns for example)
3 - a player has signed a contract with an NHL team and the 48 hour waiver period has closed (an example is a player signing directly out of college)
UFA's are a first come first serve basis. You may only claim 1 player every 24 hours.
Waivers
These will be used for multiple purposes.
1 - Whenever you are releasing a player, you must make a post in the waivers section stating that you are releasing a player. He will be subject to waivers for 48 hours
2 - When a non-drafted player signs their first contract, they are on waivers for the first 48 hours after the announcement of contract signing (ie. a college player signing as a free agent or another example is an overseas player signing their first contract (think gustavsson or fasth type player)) (when there is a dispute over the time at which the contract was signed, the MOD team will make a judgement on it)
The initial waiver order will be the inverse of the original dispersal draft order. Once a successful claim on a player has been made, the team that made it will be placed at the bottom of the waiver list.
Trading
Trading will be permitted at any time except for these 2 times. During the dispersal draft and in the time following the Trade Deadline to the end of the NHL regular season.
When two managers have agreed upon a trade, one manager must place a post in the Pending Trades section with all details of the trade including all entry draft picks that may be included as well as any stipulations that may be there. After that post the other gm involved in the deal shall reply with acceptance of the deal. At this point the deal will be considered completed. A post from a MOD with approval will purely be a formality. After this point the Player index and future draft pick threads will be updated and the trade will be moved into the Finalized deal forum.
With trading we have all seen a trade where we feel one team wins a trade and the other loses. We have also seen a deal where one team REALLY loses it. This is apart of fantasy hockey just as it is a part of the NHL. (Erat for Forsberg, Goligoski for Neal and Niskanen). If two teams agree upon a deal we must respect the deal to a certain point. If multiple managers have a problem with a deal and it is deemed to be detrimental towards the leagues future, a vote may be called upon in which 75% of the non trading teams will be needed to veto the deal ( 13 of 16 managers). If the vote percentage is met then the deal will be considered veto. It is in the leagues best interest to try and and avoid these situations, but they may arise.
Collusion
If collusion is suspected from managers, an investigation will begin. If it turns out that managers are partaking in collusion, and it can be proved, the manager(s) involved will be expelled from the league.
We all know there is money involved but in fantasy hockey, the most important thing is to have fun. Cheating should never happen. Integrity is worth more than the winnings from this league.
Trade records
Every trade that has been approved will be in the Finalized trade forum. Any draft pick that is traded will be put in the future pick thread in the Entry Draft forum. Although the league will maintain records of the trades and free agency that happens, it is highly recommended that each team maintain a record of their own transactions to prevent future mixups.
It is also recommended that every GM keeps a transaction record within their Team Forum. This is to keep track of trades, free agent signings, player releases, and roster moves during a Fantrax season.
Prize Structure
With 16 teams paying $20 there will be a total of $320 collected.
$200 of that will be put into the regular season portion in Fantrax
prize payouts will be as such
1st place regular season - $140
2nd place regular season - $40
3rd place regular season - $20
The other $120 goes into the playoffs for the Fantrax playoffs. This will be for the top 8 teams from the regular season
1st place playoffs - $100
2nd place playoffs - $20
The fees will be collected via leaguesafe.com. The payouts will be made available once the season has concluded. (likely about a week after the end of the year)
Refunds will not be issued unless there is an extreme case. We want all managers to be committed to the league and dont want managers quitting over sour grapes and expecting their money back.
Participation and Words for GM's
It is important every team/GM/Owner maintains an active roster management system. If you go MIA, don't join discussions, etc, then your team may be forfeited to a new GM/Owner.
To be fair to all GMs things like going over the salary cap, going over the max roster size and trading picks/players that you do not have will all have a penalty.
All owners must make an attempt to fields a complete roster through the entire season. Purposefully benching players, when roster spots are available, affects teams battling for the last playoff spots and future draft picks. This will not be acceptable.
There will be a three(3) strike policy for offenses
1st offense: warning
2nd offense: stronger warning
3rd offense: you will be penalized with the loss of a 2nd rd entry pick
4th offense: you will be kicked out of the league and a replacement will be named.
We want every gm to be on top of their teams and keep track of each player and pick. As everyone knows, not every rule or incident can be specifically addressed in the League Rules. The admins have the right to make changes, rulings or address any incident as they see fit to the benefit of the league.
IF a team needs some time for personal reasons (sick, vacation etc) then they are to inform 1 or more of the mods and it will be the responsibility of those mods to let the league know of their absence.
Let's be active and make this a fun and enjoyable experience!
